 Metropolitan Denver Medical Societies Alliance

The time has come for a serious discussion about the future of the Metropolitan Denver Medical Societies Alliance.   MDMSA last met in December 2008 at the Denver County Club.  The members that attended that event wanted to continue a social group but no one stepped up to take the reins.  Our interest groups continue to keep members in touch with each other, while they play bridge, discuss a book, or share a meal at the gourmet group. These core groups have been around for many years.

The Governing committee has served for several years now and is more than ready to have someone else step up to take over the leadership of the group.   Members willing to plan events, send out dues notices, serve as treasurer, and write and mail newsletters are needed for MDMSA to continue.  The few members that have paid dues this year have done so through the Colorado Medical Society dues billing to our physician spouse.  We are a non-functioning group with the exception of the Special Interest groups.

Therefore, your attendance at the luncheon planned for Thursday, February 25 at Cherry Hills Village III Clubhouse is important.  This will be your opportunity to voice your opinion and cast your VOTE on the future of the Metro Denver Alliance.  If there are no new volunteers to head the Alliance, it is our intention to discus DISSOLUTION.  At the end of the discussion — we will call for a VOTE.

We encourage you to attend this IMPORTANT meeting and look forward to seeing you there.

Feel free to contact us with questions and comments.

Make the Connection …

from your friends in the
Metropolitan Denver Medical Societies Alliance

Healthy Body - Healthy Mind

Our mission is connecting with physicians to actively participate in building a healthy Colorado.  Toward that end, we felt the best way to begin is to focus on Healthy Body – Healthy Mind to encourage our members to choose to live a healthier lifestyle.  Enclosed is your annual dues statement for your membership in the Metropolitan Denver Medical Societies Alliance (MDMSA) for 2009.

When you join the Alliance in Metro Denver by paying unified dues you gain membership in the Colorado Medical Society Connection and the American Medical Association Alliance.  By supporting and joining the entire Alliance Federation (county, state and national), you connect the family of medicine and form a stronger organization with a national presence.

Today's Alliance includes men as well as women, physicians as well as spouses, medical students, resident physicians and their spouses representing all stages of the medical lifestyle, from the training years to retirement.   The Metro Denver Alliance is a 501(c)3 organization working with the Arapahoe-Douglas-Elbert, Aurora-Adams, Clear Creek Valley, and Denver County Medical Societies.

Your Alliance

·         is involved in the “Baby Think It Over” (BTIO) project to help teens understand the immense challenge and responsibility that becoming a parent entails by providing over 115  computerized infant simulators that look and behave like real babies in area schools and treatment centers for “at risk” youth.

·         works to protect the future of medicine through legislative advocacy here in Colorado and in Washington D.C.

·         lets you develop lifelong friendships, build an effective network of co-workers and find a ready-made support system for the unique challenges of life in a medical family.

·         offers state, regional and national workshops and seminars that will contribute to your personal development.

·         Joining the CMS Connection -- 2009 Challenge Colorado – Walk Colorado Twice -- The CMSC invites you to make a difference in YOUR health...one step at a time!  Get your team together to mark the miles around the great state of Colorado.  From north to south and east to west, it’s only 1326 miles; therefore we are challenging you to make the journey twice!  Together, our steps will be stronger and an important part of living a “Healthier lifestyle.”  Winning teams will be announced at Annual Meeting, September 10-14 in Breckenridge.  An event kickoff will be held at the Board and General Membership meeting on Monday, February 9 at the CMS office beginning at 10 a.m. The Walking Challenge Action kit can also be found on our web site @ www.cmsconnection.org.

We invite you to join us in our Healthy Mind Healthy Body challenge.  Make a difference in YOUR health...one step at a time!  Together, our steps will be stronger and an important part of living a “Healthier lifestyle.”

  1. Assessing your own BMI-Body Mass Index to help you set your goals.  Consult with your physician before starting any exercise program.

What you need to get started:

·         A walking friend or group

·         A pedometer (this is optional but is great for measuring steps)

  1. Sign up you and/or your team for the 2009 Challenge Colorado – Walk Colorado Twice. Consistent low or moderate exercise such as walking is associated with important cardiovascular health benefits.  It also reduces anxiety and tension and aids in weight loss.
