San Luis Valley Medical Society Alliance

January, 2010

We began 2010 with a few new group events.  We are trying to support a more social and “Getting to Know Each Other “program.

Last Thursday we had our first Dinner Club event.  We attracted 3 potential members.  The dinner was hosted by our Treasurer, Susan and was themed as "Bocadillos" (Tapas - Little Bites).   Each month we will have a different member host the Dinner Club event.  The host will decide on the theme and will make the entrée.  They will assign a few menu items (recipes) that go with the theme to a few members so that they may prepare and bring to the dinner.  The host family will also invite members who have indicated they are available and interested in that dinner party.  Then they will ask a few potential members to also join the dinner.  We hope these small dinner party groups will highlight our wonderful members and entice potential members to join us.

In the first week of February we will begin our Book Club.  We will meet monthly to discuss our book and get to know each other better.  We hope this will provide a day time event that will encourage new members to join in the fun.

Another new group we have formed is our Outdoor Club.  We have organized ski days at Wolf Creek with after skiing “Hot Refreshments” at a member’s home.  When the weather is warmer we will have hiking events.

Twice a year we will take a short trip to another community.  We will most likely car pool and travel 1-2 hours away for lunch and strolling through the little mountain communities.

Also, twice a year we will have a joint Medical Society and Alliance dinner and meeting.  We try to have events where the member and spouse can be together.  Usually this involves a dinner meeting and/or social.

Finally, we have also planned on 1 or 2 Theatre nights where couples can enjoy the pre-theatre social and ending with the enjoyment of the theatre production.

We hope to develop a program where potential members want to be invited and enjoy all we have to offer.

Respectfully Submitted,

Mary Rice, SLVMSA President
