COLORADO MEDICAL SOCIETY CONNECTION

 

             Guidelines for the Benevolent Fund

 

The Benevolent Fund shall be a revolving committee composed of:

  • Those persons who have served the three previous terms as the CMSC
  • President or Co-Presidents
  • The current State Connection President, and current Health Promotion Chair
  • The member having been on the committee the longest will serve as Chairman of the committee.  If a committee member cannot serve, the president shall appoint another past president to fill the vacancy. 

 

Purpose:  Provide funds that will be available for county health/SAVE projects, and other related purposes to the state alliance, its county alliances, resident physician/medical student spouse groups, and new county alliance/connection groups. 

 

All requests for funds shall be presented to the Benevolent Fund Committee through one of the following:

  • By the president or leader of a county alliance/connection,
  • By the state president
  • By a physician spouse in an area that wants to form a new county connection, or
  • By resident/medical student spouse leader.

 

Submission period:  When feasible, requests for awards should be submitted to the BF Committee from May to October to assist the committee members in making fiscally responsible disbursement decisions.

 

A written request for a Benevolent Fund award is required and should contain the following information:

      *   The reason for the request, i.e. funding for health/Save projects, start-up funds for

            newly organized alliances, or other related purposes,

  • The rational for the request
  • A detailed description of how the award will be used,
  • A receipt of a bill for a business transaction, or a proposed budget of how the money will be used.

 

Administration:  The Committee will review and investigate the requests.

  • A request does NOT guarantee an award disbursement.
  • The Benevolent Fund Committee will determine eligibility.
  • Each county can apply only once during the CMSA fiscal year.
  • If the Committee approves the request, the State Treasurer will be instructed to send a check from the Benevolent Fund for the amount of money granted.
  • Both the principal and interest may be disbursed at the discretion of the BF Committee.
  • Any fund distribution will be limited to a maximum of $1000.  Further limits may be placed on the amounts awarded to protect the solvency of the fund by the Committee. 
  • Donations from all Connection members and recipients are encouraged.
  • All money given from the Benevolent Fund is considered a gift and does not have to be reimbursed.

 

 

Recipients should acknowledge the Colorado Medical Society Connection for the award from the Benevolent Fund to their membership through county newsletters, word of mouth, and/or other means.

 

The CMSA President can appoint an AD Hoc Committee to include at least one past president to rewrite the definition and guidelines for the Benevolent Fund.
